Daouk confident Berri would bring forth sought agreement, says Mikati has had his fill

NNA - Caretaker Minister of Information, Walid Daouk, said Tuesday that House Speaker, Nabih Berri, was able to lead all parties to the sought agreement over an elections law, owing to his wisdom and perspicacity.

Interviewed on Voice of Lebanon radio station, he said history would witness that outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati was a first-rate statesman, "because during the past two years, he did what nobody could do." "He preserved stability in Lebanon and endured until the last straw," he corroborated.

Turning to the elections law issue, Daouk raised doubt that the Orthodox proposal would truly represent the will of the Lebanese. "I have no clue about the scenario currently being concocted for the new law, but each party is trying to improve their negotiation condition before making any agreement. When they sit down together and see that the nation's interest necessitates concessions, they will indeed concede to reach the sought solution," he indicated.

He did not fail to up calls to protect all the institutions and preclude them from descending into vacuum.

On a different note, Daouk said he believed the performance of media would improve if that of politicians did.

"Media cannot bear the responsibility of some politicians' lack of morals," he said, stressing that the judiciary must interfere when the limits are crossed.

"All syndicates and orders impose honor pacts to control vocations, but in media, the required restraints are not defined," he noted.

On his Ministry's affairs, he said that albeit the climate did not allow him to accomplish much, he managed to beget"peaceful media stability." "We managed to relatively improve the performance," he concluded.
