NNA - President of the Republic, Michel Sleiman, duly requested on Thursday Army Chief, General Jean Qahwaji, to present the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with copies of security reports on fresh Syrian airstrikes on Arsal outskirts.



The vicinity of the Bekaa town was reportedly hit yesterday and on March 18 with two shells by the Syrian air force.



Both Sleiman and Qahwaji discussed today the current security situation in the country and the measures adopted by the army to preserve civil peace and stability.



Sleiman also met today at Baabda palace with UNRWA General Commissioner, Filipo Grandi, over the massive influx of displaced Syrians.



The President renewed calls to hold an international conference to skim through the distribution of the displaced in the neighboring and friendly countries.



He also broached the option of setting camps inside Syria in border regions distant from the conflict zones and under the reserve of UN-affiliated troops.



Sleiman had earlier met with the Cypriot Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, George Lakkotrypis.



The pair discussed the bilateral relations between Lebanon and Cyprus and the means to bolster cooperation on the level of offshore gas and oil exploration.



Furthermore, the President respectively met with the Head of the IRCC and the chairman of the World Internal Auditors Association.
