NNA - MP Antoine Zahra held a press conference Wednesday whereby he spoke about his Australian tour in Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide, urging the Lebanese expats spread all over the globe to force the state, by all means, to allow their participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
"We as parliament members were no longer able to exercise our accountability role properly, after the coup that ousted Prime Minister Saad Hariri. Even our legislative role became somehow limited," he noted, stressing the influence of the press which has become the only authority that has the freedom to take action.
"With the repercussions of what is happening in Syria on the Lebanese interior and with the March 8 forces intentions to disrupt the democratic life and the complete control of Hezbollah over the country, we sense in Lebanon's expatriates some hope that our political struggle would eventually be fruitful," Zahra said.
Tackling the Orthodox law and its impact on the unity of March 14 forces, the LF Deputy assured that no one has the ability to fragment this political camp, "no matter how hard they tried."
He added that "the current situation puts pressure on all the parties to finalize a law before the constitutional deadline," assuring that the Orthodox law was the best for just representation; however, it did not earn unanimity.
Asked about potential alliance between the Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement in the forthcoming elections, Zahra confirmed that "if Aoun dropped the cover off Hezbollah which backs the Syrian regime and supports the Iranian stances, we would not mind building such alliance."
