NNA - Minister of State Marwan Kheireddine said in a statement on Monday that being unjust in classifying sects on majority and minority bases is a stab in the heart of consensual democracy and the constitution balance of patriotism.
The constitution states that all the Lebanese are equal in rights and duties, the Minister said, adding if duties are imposed on everybody without distinction, rights are also for everyone without distinction.
In comment on some politicians' statements, Kheireddine expressed concern over their "lack of understanding of some of the conditions and the nature of Taif, as they "tended to take from it what suits them and ignore what does not, especially the rhetoric related to the Senate".
He added that the agreement, in Taif, to form the Senate came as an advanced formula of the National Authority to cancel political sectarianism.
The Minister said that the National Authority for the abolition of political sectarianism is a preliminary version which all the Lebanese sects would head in rotation, including Druze sect, as it operates under existing sectarian system and seeks to repeal it.
He added that this step would be a prerequisite for the establishment of the Senate, pointing out that those two formulas should not be confused.
