Mikati deprecates attack on Lebanese Army in Sidon

NNA - Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Monday vehemently condemned the attacks which had targeted a Lebanese Army post in the city of Sidon last night, leaving behind one soldier dead and three others injured.

Lebanese Army sergeant, Samer Rizk, was shot dead after gunmen in a silver Range Rover attacked an Army post in the Awali region of Sidon.

The gunmen attempted to throw a hand grenade at the soldiers after they asked the driver to pull over, but grenade exploded before being tossed at the soldiers, instantly killing the sergeant and injuring three soldiers.

"Those are absolute acts of terror as they have targeted the military institution which defends Lebanon and the Lebanese," Mikati said, urging the Lebanese to rally around the Lebanese Army and security apparatuses and to prevent all attempts to tamper with their credibility.

It is to note that Mikati had been briefed on the details of the incident by Army Commander General Jean Kahwaji.
