Mikati tells UN envoys Lebanon disappointed by international community in refugees' dossier

NNA - Outgoing Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, underscored on Thursday that Lebanon did not fail in shouldering its humanitarian duties towards the displaced Syrians, but that it was at dismay as the international community was not up to scratch in helping on this level.

Mikati met today at the Grand Serail with UN Humanitarian Aid Chief, Valerie Amos, in presence of UNDP representative in Lebanon, Robert Watkins, and the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Derek Plumbly.

Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Amos indicated that talks featured high on the ailing humanitarian condition in war-torn Syria and the related reverberation son Lebanon, now saddled with the heavy brunt of over than one million refugees.

"The United Nations and all out partners and agents are working on supporting the displaced, hosting communities, and the Lebanese government, to grapple with this predicament," she said.

"We are now working at the UN on implementing the recommendations of the Security Council's presidential statement, which has been agreed upon in last October, in terms of measures to protect civilians and letting aids in downtrodden regions that were difficult to reach," she noted.
