Daher: Tripoli paying price for defending independence

NNA - Future lawmaker Khaled Daher said Wednesday that Tripoli was paying the price of defending Lebanon and the Lebanese for the sake of freedom and independence, considering that if the city falls, the country will no longer be the same.

"We, in Lebanon, are the spearhead of Lebanon First project launched by Saad Hariri," he told an interview on Sharq radio.

He depicted what was happening in Tripoli as a political, security, military, and economic war.

On turning Tripoli into a military zone, Daher said this step was rejected because this would mean isolating the city from its vicinity.

"I do not think that there is a security plan. There are security measures the military and security institutions ought to take nationwide to preserve security and civil peace and curb illegitimate weapons," he added.

Commenting on the fresh statements of Hezbollah Leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, the Deputy said they proved animosity for Saudi Arabia, which is, according to him, the biggest supporter for Lebanon.

He added that Hezbollah sought to reshuffle cards "as Geneva talks neared and the Free Syrian Army was advancing in Syria."

In response to a question on MP Walid Jumblatt's proposal to put the Information Department under the army command, Daher said this stance stemmed from the National Struggle Front Head's constant fear of Hezbollah. "His real position is pro the state institutions, but it seems that weapons talk!" he concluded.
