Pro-Palestinian protests spread at US universities

NNA - As graduation season approaches, student demonstrators have amplified their dissent over the Israel-Hamas conflict on campuses nationwide. Demonstrations at universities in California and Texas prompted police intervention, resulting in arrests.

At Columbia University, students erected an encampment as a symbol of protest, defying attempts by the administration to dismantle it. Similar clashes occured at other universities, with police actions drawing criticism from students.

The tension intensified as graduation ceremonies loom, with incidents reported at universities like USC and University of Texas at Austin. USC canceled a valedictorian's speech due to safety concerns, adding fuel to the protests.

Meanwhile, Harvard University faced protests over its handling of the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee. The demands include divesting from companies associated with the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Amidst the protests, concerns have arisen about the escalation of antisemitism and the impact on Jewish students. Some universities took measures to maintain order, while others engage in negotiations with protesters.

The situation remains fluid as universities grapple with balancing free speech and maintaining campus security.
