NNA - President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, told his Baabda visitors on Thursday that the statement of Israeli Defense Minister Lieberman on block No. 9 in the exclusive economic zone in southern Lebanon was extremely dangerous.
"We need to be aware of what the Israeli enemy is plotting against Lebanon, especially with the support of those who are working internally and externally to provide a climate of harmony with the Israeli threats to attack Lebanon,” Aoun said.
"Lebanon will counter these Israeli claims by diplomatic means, while asserting its right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity by all the available means,” the President added.
Among Baabda visitors on Thursday had been Information Minister, Melhem Riachy, who discussed with the President the general situation in the country.
The pair stressed the need to maintain the overall order and activity in the country, highlighting as well the pressing need to protect state institutions.
Riachy also relayed the President’s assurance of his “full adherence to the Taef Agreement”.
Lebanese Central Bank Governor, Riad Salameh, also visited the President at Baabda Palace.
In the wake of the meeting, Salameh confirmed that the banking sector in Lebanon was functioning at a normal pace. He also described the monetary situation as positive, and confirmed the Central Bank’s continuing support to house and production loans.
“During the month of January, the Bank’s foreign currency assets increased by almost one billion US dollars,” Salameh said.
