Head of Anti-Corruption Authority, US Ambassador discuss collaboration

NNA - President of Lebanon's National Anti-Corruption Commission, Judge Claude Karam, on Thursday met with US Ambassador to Lebanon, Lisa Johnson, at the commission's headquarters in Beirut.

Also present were Arkan El Seblani, Regional Chief Advisor and Programme Manager at UNDP, and commission members.

The meeting reportedly focused on the paramount importance of preventing and combating corruption, highlighting the commission's pivotal role in this regard. The meeting also emphasized the need for cooperation between national and international parties to implement the commission's tasks, contributing significantly to rebuilding Lebanon's rule of law, institutions, and the success of economic and social reform programs.

The meeting also included a dialogue on developing cooperation within the framework of bilateral and international agreements, aligned with the priorities of the US and Lebanon in combating corruption.

This collaboration is part of the regional cooperation between the National Anti-Corruption Commission and the UN Development Programme, supported by the US Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, focusing on supporting the commission's engagement in the Arab Network for Integrity and Combating Corruption and building bilateral partnerships with similar institutions worldwide to enhance Lebanon's capacity to address corruption risks within and beyond its borders in line with its commitments under the UN Convention against Corruption.
