NNA - Caretaker Minister of Information, Melhem Riachy, on Friday bestowed upon renowned Lebanese artist, Youssef Fakhri, an honorary shield in appreciation of his unique artistic talents, in presence of Ministry of Information General Director, Dr. Hassan Falha, and other ministry officials.
"It’s my pleasure to honor one of Lebanon’s leading artists in theater, speech, poetry, and literature — the great artist, Youssef Fakhri. By means of honoring him, we also pay tribute to an entire generation that has not and will not be easily replaced in Lebanon and the Arab world," Riachy said.
For his part, Fakhri thanked Minister Riachy “for this honor”.
"If only officials would look at people and their sufferings,” Fakhri said, bemoaning the fact that senior citizens in Lebanon were left without medical and other required services.
“When a Lebanese citizen reaches a certain age, he dies on the road or ends up in a shelter,” Fakhri said in regret.
Sharing a story about his sufferings due to the new rent law, Fakhri said that his family had deprived itself of everything to pay monthly rent for a new house.
“I hope that the conscience of officials will wake up. This is my suffering and that of a large percentage of citizens; this is a sword on my neck and the neck of other citizens,” he added.
