NNA - A United States military plane landed at Riyaq Airport Saturday, as part of a routine military flight program with the Lebanese Special Forces, an American Embassy statement indicated.

"The flight, which was fully coordinated with the Lebanese government and relevant authorities, carried on board 2 American military trainers to Riyaq, who will be working with the 2nd intervention regiment as part of the US government's commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the Lebanese Army, including special forces to work on border security and respond in case of a hostage situation," the statement added.

"This training is part of the partnership between the United States and Lebanon," the Embassy statement noted, expressing the US government's appreciation of the Army's role as the sole legitimate security force committed to protecting all Lebanese.
