U.S. Embassy: Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Diplomacy visits Lebanon

NNA - In a press release by the US Embassy in Beirut, it said "Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Diplomacy Amos Hochstein visited Lebanon today and met with senior officials to discuss the economic situation in Lebanon as well as other regional energy issues."

Release added "Hochstein had meetings with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Prime Minister-Designate Tamaam Salam, President of the Chamber of Deputies Nabih Berri, Caretaker Minister of Energy and Water Gebran Bassil and former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora."

"In his meetings, Hochstein discussed the status of the Lebanese government's efforts to advance the development of the country's hydrocarbons sector, which could play a critical role in Lebanon's economic development if managed judiciously. Mr. Hochstein noted the progress in energy developments worldwide and urged leaders to come together to ensure energy resources benefit all Lebanese people and Lebanon realizes the full economic potential of those resources," release said.

Release went on to say "He also discussed Lebanon's offshore bid round, which attracted widespread interest from the international energy industry for the pre-qualification process, and for which four U.S. companies have pre-qualified."

"He renewed the United States' commitment to a stable, sovereign and independent Lebanon," release concluded.
