French envoy says reconciliation, dialogue crucial to make peace

NNA - French Ambassador to Lebanon, Patrice Paoli, said Monday struggling for making peace must certainly pass through reconciliation and dialogue, stressing that peace cannot be achieved without endeavours.

"That is the way which France would like to light up for Lebanon and the Middle East, in collaboration with all the countries and international organizations sharing the values of peace," he said.

"That is the sense behind the presence of soldiers committed to peace within the international peacekeeping force in South Lebanon," he corroborated.

Paoli made these remarks during a ceremony held this afternoon at the French embassy in memory of the French soldiers who died in Lebanon, with the US and Hungarian Ambassadors attending.

"We meet today in recognition of and appreciation for all those who fought to defend France," the French ambassador said.

"WWI and WWII taught us that peace was priceless and indispensable. But it is fragile in the same time. Peace cannot be made without efforts. It is a constant struggle; this is what Lebanon knows well because it every day resist schisms and tensions flared up by the civil war in Syria and threatening Lebanon's internal peace," he concluded.
