NNA - Cairo - The Arab States League Council concluded Tuesday the discussion of the majority of items on its work agenda during its 150th session held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with solidarity and support to Lebanon being at the centre of its deliberations.
The Council convened under the Chairmanship of Sudan and the participation of Arab foreign ministers and their representatives, in the presence of Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit. Representing Lebanon at the Council meeting was Caretaker Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Minister, Gebran Bassil.
The Arab League headquarters is to witness important meetings on the sidelines of the regular session, where Arab foreign ministers will tackle the campaign against the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) at the request of Jordan, in addition to supporting it financially in wake of the recent US decision to stop financial contributions.
Meanwhile, the permanent representatives have completed the discussion of most of the items and draft resolutions on the Council's agenda, especially regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict and the developments in Syria, Yemen and Libya. The Arab peace initiative and support for the Palestinian state's budget, the steadfastness of the Palestinian people, Arab water security, Israel's theft of water in the occupied Arab territories and the occupied Syrian Arab Golan also featured high during their talks.
