NNA - Caretaker Minister of Information, Melhem Riachy, received at his office in the ministry the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Privatization, Ziad Al-Hayek, and the Chairman of the General Labor Confederation, Bechara Al-Asmar, at the head of a delegation.

In the wake of the meeting, Al-Asmar said "The meeting held today under the auspices of Information Minister Melhem Riachy is a follow-up to last week's session, in the presence of Tele Liban Staff union chairman, Kamal Aswad."

"Discussions touched on the topics related to Tele Liban, employees' concerns, and the proposals submitted to the Supreme Council for Privatization. We as GLC (...) also presented our concerns over privatization which would become, in the Lebanese sense, a sort of takeover. On the other hand, Minister Riachy and Mr. Ziad Al-Hayek explained the absolute transparency that will accompany the proposed project, and the importance of partnership between the private and the public sectors so as to meet the needs of employee and boost productivity," he said.

"We as GLC and workers stand against privatization in general, because we believe in keeping public sectors in the custody of the Lebanese State. However, we are open to dialogue, (...) for we have concerns which we seek to dispel," Al-Asmar concluded.
