Mikati avows security forces unbending in restoring calm in Tripoli

NNA - Outgoing Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Friday confirmed that the Lebanese Army and security forces were adamant to tightening measures aimed to cease the drastic security events in Tripoli and to restore calm in the northern city.

"We give the priority to addressing matters in the city with wisdom because we consider ourselves responsible for our sons and brothers. But this may be at the expense of the state's prestige and authority. No one is entitled to consider themselves as stronger than the state. No matter what happens, the state authority is above everybody and everybody must be under the rule of law,' Mikati said during his meeting with Tripoli MPs.

"Once again, we condemn the twin explosions of the two mosques in Tripoli and we highlight the obligation to move forward with the necessary judicial investigations to apprehend who planned for and participated in this act," he indicated.

Mikati later met with a delegation of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, headed by Ahmad Nasser.

During the meeting, Mikati reportedly called the Lebanese immigrants and expats to unite and keep away from rifts and schisms which harm their image in the countries where they live.
