March 14 links Cabinet formation to Hezbollah pullout from Syria

NNA - March 14 forces reiterated Wednesday that abiding by Baabda Declaration in terms of Lebanon's neutrality and the pullout of Hezbollah's fighters from Syria were mandatory to form the new government.

"First, what we want is to abide by Baabda Declaration which states Lebanon's neutrality and which contradicts with the Army-People-Resistance trinity. Second, there is a regional demand that reflects on the security of the Lebanese, which is the withdrawal of Hezbollah from Syria. When these demands are met, the suitable government is formed," March 14 General Secretariat said in a statement issued following its regular meeting in Ashrafieh.

"We want the government to be formed today before tomorrow and we want the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister-designate to assume their responsibility and form the government immediately," the forces' coordinator, former MP Fares Soueid, said.

The forces maintained that they would not yield to any group carrying illegitimate weapons in Lebanon, in reference to Hezbollah.

"The proposal of Sayyed Hassan is a project of surrender and not partnership," the statement read, in reference to a fresh speech by Hezbollah's Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Turning to Tripoli, Soueid said that what was happening in the North, Sidon, and Bekaa, were only "skirmishes." "We, the Lebanese officials, must curb any attempt to slip into strife," he stressed.
