NNA - The Coordinator of the Kataeb Central Committee, MP Sami Gemayel, responded Monday - after the weekly meeting of the Kataeb party - to the statement delivered by the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, affirming that the file of the detainees in Syrian prisons is more than 40 years old and that the state did not take any radical initiative to resolve this issue.
"Nasrallah used the word 'missing' to talk about the Lebanese prisoners in Syria," he pointed out, adding that "622 names are not in any way missing but kidnapped or detained in Syrian prisons."
Gemayel asked Nasrallah not to "act as if seeking to close this dossier."
Tackling the principle of "brother or enemy", Gemayel explained that "Israel was for us an enemy because it occupied Lebanon and violated it every day and kidnapped Lebanese."
"Syria bombed Lebanon, kidnapped Lebanese and violated the air, sea and land borders. Syria destroyed Lebanon, occupied it and committed all what an enemy could ever commit, so it is rated as enemy," he affirmed.
As for the case of the Aazaz kidnapped, Gemayel said "the state was aware of the kidnapped Turkish pilots' whereabouts and coordinated with the kidnappers. Also, a high-ranking official in the state met with a wanted person on charges of trying to blow up the Lebanese."
"We leave those facts to the public opinion," he said.
Talking about the situation in Tripoli, Gemayel noted that "the Army is still trying to impose the authority of the state in Tripoli, but the political decision was delayed and the government still refuses to give the green light for the Army to end the battle."
