(Update) Inauguration of Hazmieh municipal palace in presence of Sleiman

NNA - The municipal council of Hazmieh inaugurated Thursday its municipal palace in presence of the President of the Republic Michel Sleiman, caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities Marwan Charbel, scores of lawmakers and former ministers, and a panel of diplomats and economic, spiritual, and social figures.

Sleiman, who's also celebrating the labeling of an avenue in Baabda after his name, featured high in the word delivered on the occasion by Minister Charbel, who was keen on underlining the President's full attention he had devoted to developing municipalities.

"Our celebration today comes in one of the most critical times in the history of Lebanon and the region. Our nation is nowadays through an intricate crisis, which could not be overcome had it not been for the unity of its sons and their bet on the national institutions capable of facing political, social, and security challenges," Charbel said.

Relaying heaps of praise on the President's dauntless efforts to exit the current gridlock, the Minister maintained one must cleave to national constants and principles.

He also shone light on the path the President had held onto in terms of pushing the international support group for Lebanon recognize his "exceptional" and "courageous" leadership during a critical stage.

"Your determination to preserve Lebanon's unity and stability is a national historic mission. Your efforts are the mainstay to protecting the unity of Lebanon and the Lebanese," Charbel said, addressing President Sleiman.

"Your main and sole concern is to exit, in the nearest time possible, the current stagnation that is impeding the formation of a new government capable of making the needed decisions," he added.

"Through your instructions pertaining to the Syrian displaced dossier, we see that addressing this issue cannot be just a Lebanese errand; it should rather be addressed on the Arab and international levels as well, because the related burden exceeds the potential of our country," he finally mentioned.

In his improvised word, President Sleiman stressed the role of municipalities in carrying out their duties in the service of citizens, especially with regard to preserving law, civil organization and environment across all Lebanese regions.

Sleiman underlined the stringent and essential need for administrative decentralization to keep up with current progress and modern requirements and to meet citizens' needs.

"Decentralization bolsters the electoral option for the citizen," Sleiman said.
