NNA - Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel stressed the importance of activating the Municipal Police and Guards role in order to strengthen stability, maintain security and provide a secure network over all the Lebanese countries.



Charbel's remarks came on Thursday in a lecture on "Official Self-Security which he gave at Issam Fares Center for Lebanese Affairs in Sin-El-Fil.



The lecture aimed to enlighten the public on the importance of revitalizing the role of the municipal police to strengthen stability and security over all Lebanese regions.



Charbel said that "the Lebanese have experienced previously self-security and adopted autonomous security measures, but they have dearly paid the price of these experiences ."



He added that they later realized that there was " no substitute for the state and its institutions, mainly the military and security ones to protect the country and citizens", pointing out that those institutions showed on daily basis high competency in uncovering criminal schemes and shunning stability all dangers.



The Minister also highlighted that it is necessary that the "Ministry depends on the role of the Police and Guards based on the legal tasks that they enjoy , especially that such tasks are related to local and official security", saying that such tasks could be carried out after those municipal members undergo training by specialists at the Internal Security Forces training college, so as to eliminate one day the concept of self security .



Charbel said that the "state is for all citizens and is capable of embracing all the Lebanese" adding that it has been making extraordinary efforts to strengthen measures that would allow it to pursue sabotaging and terrorism networks and lead to justice.



"Dialogue fortifies stability from all sides mainly the security, economic and social ones," the Minister concluded.
