Minister of Economy concludes China visit, signs 'Silk Road' MoU

NNA - Minister of Economy and Trade Raed Khoury concluded an official visit to China where he signed a memorandum of understanding between Lebanon and the People's Republic of China on the joint promotion of cooperation within the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Silk Road Initiative."

Both sides agreed to work hand-in-hand in this framework in an attempt to achieve common development goals and to benefit from political dialogue, economic integration, and exchange of benefits between both peoples en route to practical cooperation and sustainable growth that can enhance political and economic ties.

The memorandum also touts cooperation between the two sides in areas of common interests, including transport, logistics and infrastructure, investment and trade, energy and renewable energy, cultural exchange, as well as health and sports.

The MoU outlines ways of cooperation between China and Lebanon through the exchange of high-level visits by means of existing governmental and non-governmental cooperation mechanisms, building a multi-level platform for exchanging information in various fields, securing various channels for this purpose, as well as promoting transparency and encouraging participation in all the sectors of society.

Pilot programs, joint research, exchange of staff, and the organization of training courses in key areas are also part of the MoU, which also stipulates the formulation of a plan of action for bilateral cooperation and consultation, the conclusion of a list of joint projects, and the implementation of relevant work.
