NNA - Caretaker Industry Minister, Vrej Sabounjian, on Monday convened with the U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon, David Hale over boosting the countries' bilateral ties.
Hale conveyed his country's keenness on Lebanon's sovereignty and stability, and commitment to renewing the General System of Preference, which is a formal system of exemption from the more general rules of the World Trade Organization (WTO).
It is noteworthy that this system enables the Lebanese goods to enter the U.S. market without any custom fees.
"This agreement needs to be approved by the Congress every two years and since it has reached its expiry date last June, it will be voted on again after the federal holiday," he explained.
Sabounjian thanked the U.S. administration for its concern, deeming the aforesaid agreement to be a motive for industry and for the Lebanese merchant to develop his products and activities with the U.S.
