NNA - The Higher Defense Council convened Monday at the Baabda Palace under the chairmanship of President Michel Sleiman in the presence of outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati to tackle the security updates and the repercussions of the terrorist bombings that recently rocked Tripoli, as well as the means to address this critical situation.
The HDC meeting was attended by caretaker Ministers Adnan Mansour (Foreign Affairs), Marwan Charbel (Interior), Muhammad Safadi (Finance), Nicolas Nahhas (Economy) and Shaqik Qortbawi (Justice).
The meeting was also attended by the Commander of the Lebanese Army, General Jean Qahwaji, the Director General of General Security, Major General Abbas Ibrahim, the Director General of State Security, Major General George Qoraa, the secretary-general of the Supreme Council for Defense, Major General Mohammed Khair, the director of the intelligence service in the Army, Brigadier General Edmond Fadel, the acting director general of the ISF, Brigadier General Ibrahim Basbous and the Head of the Information Branch, Colonel Imad Othman.
In response to reporters upon his arrival at the Presidential Palace, LAF Chief Jean Qahwaji said "In light of the unstable situation in the region, our situation in Lebanon remains good. The country will survive."
