NNA - Lebanese Army Chief, General Jean Qahwaji, stressed that the Lebanese Army has been since months pursuing a terrorist cell working on booby-trapping cars and sending them to residential areas, indicating that the exploded car of Ruwais belonged to said cell.
The chief's words came Wednesday in the context of a ceremony set by the Lebanese Army Command in honor of retired officers in Yarzeh.
Qahwaji explained that the cell is not only plotting against certain region or confession but also against numerous regions of different political and confessional affiliations, for the purpose of flaring up a sectarian strife across the country.
Qahwaji said the Lebanese Army is engaging in a comprehensive war against terrorism, calling for local united efforts to face terrorism on the political, judicial, security and media levels.
The chief also underscored the army's alertness and readiness on the southern borders to encounter threats of the Israeli enemy.
