The UN diplomat's discussion with LAU students also tackled sensitive topics such as: violent extremism, the occupation of land by informal parties, and religious cleansing.
Kaag, who successfully led the OPCW-UN joint mission on the elimination of Syrian chemical weapons, noted that the prevention of nuclear weapons was part of the challenges that she had faced on more than one level.
"The lack of political consensus within the UN Security Council form an influential factor in the issue of disarmament, as well as the positions of the countries receiving these weapons after being shipped from Syria," Kaag explianed.
She also focused on the issue of creative diplomacy and flexibility in similar matters, and called for decisions to be anchored on the principle of moral responsibility, rather than technical one.
The meeting took place in the presence and participation of Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Philippe Lazzarini, who delivers lectures on international affairs at (LAU).
