NNA - Visiting Cypriot Foreign Affairs Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, on Monday pinned high hopes on a swift and peaceful solution to the Syrian conflict. He also highlighted the paramount importance of aptly handling the swelling Syrian refugees' crisis in Lebanon.
The Cypriot Minister, who is on a four-hour whirlwind visit to Lebanon, had been in a meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, Caretaker Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Minister, Adnan Mansour.
"I have come to Lebanon to express solidarity with Lebanon, especially amid the crisis it endures for being close to the Syrian conflict," Kasoulides said. He also made clear that discussions with Mansour had touched as well on an array of mutual issues.
However, the visiting diplomat said that it was difficult for his country to help Lebanon out of the refugees' crisis "due to the dire economic situation in Cyprus."
"We remain steadfast and shall recover from this hazardous crisis. Once we recover, we will support Lebanon for sure," he said, noting that moral support was all his country could offer Lebanon at this stage.
