NNA - The Parliament Council cannot individually practice its constitutional prerogatives, unlimitedly, in the wake of cabinet's resignation, said Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Saturday.
"The resigned cabinet, or so considered, cannot be represented at, nor appear before, the Parliament Council," stressed Mikati in an issued statement following House Speaker, Nabih Berri's press conference held Saturday afternoon.
Mikati considered that the Parliament Council's general assembly cannot meet in a legislative session in the absence of the cabinet's head and members.
Mikati stressed that stability in the work of constitutional institutions occurs through the continued positive and fruitful cooperation between the various institutions. "Despite the difficult and extraordinary circumstances witnessed by the Lebanese political regime, yet its political authority officials have all shown keen concern for respecting the different principles of the Constitution and Parliamentary norms, which distinguish political life in Lebanon," added Mikati.
Nevertheless, Mikati commended Berri's shared concern for placing discussions within their constitutional and legal framework, away from any political polemic or biased sectarian stands. He added that the House Speaker will surely continue with his known leadership wisdom and foresight in steering parliamentary life in the country, in a manner that safeguards the work of institutions and preserves Lebanon's advanced democratic position, Mikati noted.
