Salam meets with businesswomen and laborers' delegations

NNA - PM-Designate Tamam Salam met Saturday with a delegation of Lebanese business ladies, who came to express their well-wishes on his new mandate.

The delegation urged him to form the new government the soonest possible, highlighting the need for women's quota within the cabinet.

Delegation Head, Mrs. Leila Karami, urged the PM-Designate to accord Tripoli and the North region special attention in the wake of the new government's formation, due to deteriorating living conditions there.

Salam later met with a delegation representing the Lebanese General Labor Syndicates Union, headed by Maroun Al-Khauli.

"The meeting was a chance to review the pressing economic and social conditions and daily living needs of citizens," said Al-Khauli, on emerging. He added that discussions also touched on the chaotic raise in prices of goods, especially food products in a very short period of time, in light of the Economy Ministry and Customer Rights Protection Department's absence.

"This has posed a huge burden on citizens' daily living, especially workers and employees with limited income," added Khauli. He noted that they urged PM-Designate Salam to work speedily on reviving the laws that control market prices, in an effort to combat corruption and monopoly.

Khauli added that talks with the PM-Designate also touched on the increasing number of Syrians seeking refuge on Lebanese territories, especially the negative implications of such a delicate issue. Hence, he stressed on the urgent need for a new government at the current stage, so as to face all obstacles and dangers confronting the country, whether at the political, security or social levels.
