NNA - Former President, Amine Gemayel, said to his Bekfaya visitors Sunday that the Kataeb Party agreed to the extension of parliament's mandate to protect the people from a security explosion and save state institutions and economy from void.
The Kataeb, with the blessings of Patriarch Beshara Rahi, worked tirelessly towards a modern and fair elections law, but to no avail, according to Gemayel.
"Main national factions were not responsive to our efforts, because they were planning to hold elections based on the Sixty's law or to push the country into a vacuum."
Faced with these dire options, and the involvement of certain Lebanese in the events in Syria, the Kataeb was forced to accept the extension of parliament's mandate.
Gemayel called on all to live up to their responsibilities as his party has done and to stay steadfast in Lebanon.
