NNA - Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Faisal Karami, said Tuesday that the current events jolting the northern city of Tripoli were purposed and intrusive, and that tenants had no truck with them.



As clashes and intermittent fire trade continue between the belligerent localities of Bab-el-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen, Karami, Tripoli native, said it was no more acceptable to attack the army in broad daylight.



Tripoli events, sparked over the weekend, have thus far caused martyrdom of two army officers and injured many others.



He wondered why the army would need political cover while some MPs were the first to have incited against the military and tampered with its prestige and role.



"The state is reluctant, because I see that what is happening today is the consensual security. The motto 'we want weapon-free Tripoli' has turned into 'we don't want tenant-free Tripoli," he told an interview on Sawt-el-Mada radio station.



"Who is arming these people? Who is ending battles with an illusionary security plan? How come no involved is arrested and no weapon is confiscated? The answer to these questions proves that the cover of these events is very huge," he noted.



Karami also deplored that the Lebanese were now busy with the elections at a time when Tripoli "lives a dangerous and exploded situation."



"The situation does not even allow us to hold a football; how will they hold the elections?" he wondered.



He renewed support for the elections draft law proposed by the government, as per which proportionality would be adopted, with Lebanon divided into 13 districts.



But he reminded that the government did not defend its own proposal, "as if the draft was only to pass time."



"Amid the climate we are living today, I say it is impossible that the elections run," he concluded.
