NNA - Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport witnessed on Monday one of the biggest Captagon smuggling operations being foiled.

In details, a gendarmerie inspection unit at the airport foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of Captagon pills to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.

Smugglers attempted to illegally transport aboard a private plane boarding five Saudis around 40 bags of Fenethylline (Captagon pills) weighing about 2 tons.

Airport authorities are now conducting the necessary investigations, in coordination with the competent judicial authorities, to uncover the tails of this major process which is the largest drug smuggling operation across Beirut airport. Five people are now under interrogation.
