Elections law directly linked to cabinet formation: Khaireddine

NNA - Care-taker minister Marwan Khaireddine said Sunday to Voice of Lebanon radio that the formation of the new government is directly linked to forthcoming elections law, pointing out that each team is trying to pass a law which allows it the greatest number of seats without any consideration to the interests of Lebanon and the Lebanese.

The best elections law for Lebanon today was that of one circuit on the basis of proportionality, followed by the one man one vote act; however, the minister asserted that the Lebanese were not able to agree on anything without external interference, and they have grown accustomed to parties sharing quotas rather than allowing true representatives of the people into parliament.

"There is a corrupt political class stealing bounties of Lebanon over the years and is working during the elections to trigger sectarian instincts of the Lebanese."

Khaireddine noted, "Everyone agrees on the need to hold elections on time, but this desire will not be achieved because the elections are virtually deferred, but the question is how long will this delay be?"
