Future bloc touts hybrid law, seeks government restoring trust in institutions

NNA - Future parliamentary bloc upped calls on Tuesday to intensify efforts in order to reach a new elections law based on the hybrid voting system, away from proposals likely to sharpen rifts.

The bloc met today in its periodic weekly gathering at the Centre House, under the chairmanship of MP Fouad Siniora, and lengthily tackled the current general situation in Lebanon and the broader Arab region.

Future MPs heaped praise on the current climate of "national consensus" which accompanied the designation of Tammam Salam to form Lebanon's new government and which they hoped to last throughout the formation.

They also noted tension was defused on more than a level after the resignation of outgoing Premier Najib Mikati.

They did not fail to highlight the necessity to form a government that does not comprise candidates to the legislative polls and that works on finalizing the elections dossier in the nearest time possible.

"The country needs the return of trust in the institutions of the democratic system and their prestige, which was missing due to the practices of former governments," a final statement issued in the wake of the meeting and read out by MP Atef Majdalani said.
