NNA - "Islamist Tripoli" demonstrated in support of Salafist inmates in Roumyeh prison today. They were led by Salafist preacher Shahhal where they toured a number of streets shouting slogans calling for the release of coreligionists. They were contacted by a certain incarcerated cleric Hamzeh Qasem who urged the authorities via megaphone to seriously examine inmate grievances and possible release of all Islamists.



Claiming to speak in the name of relatives of the inmates, a local Salafist cleric Muhammad Ibrahim, urged Interior minister Marwan Charbel to do justice to 21 individuals after 5 long years of imprisonment without trial.



The cleric urged Lebanese courts to end the prosecution process particularly that all Salafist prisoners underwent cross-examination for at least a couple of times.



Demonstration disbanded peacefully thanks to stringent army and police security.
