NNA - In a statement issued by the Kataeb Party political bureau on Monday following its regular meeting, it considered the cabinet's resignation as a step in the right direction. It added that the resignation comes after a series of security, economic and political set-backs that proved the government's inability to administer the country's affairs.


However, the statement expressed concern towards political void; thus, called for adopting a constitutional mechanism and shortening the government's caretaking period by forming a national rescue government. "The new government, based on the Baabda Declaration, is greatly needed at this critical phase witnessed in Lebanon and the region, for it can guide the country amidst the current delicate situation and spare Lebanon the axes policy," the Party bureau indicated.


The bureau statement went on to highlight the need for halting all internal disputes, especially in Tripoli; controlling the Lebanese-Syrian borders and preventing any armed militants from entering Lebanese territories. It also called for fortifying the Lebanese internal scene by gathering around the table of dialogue and respecting constitutional deadlines.


Following the Party's meeting, MP Elie Marouni responded to newsmen's questions, whereby he considered that the cabinet's resignation did not come as a surprise and was long awaited. However, he considered that as long as Hizbollah is in possession of arms, nothing can prevent it from a military plot that would pose a blow to all factors of national unity in the country, in favor of the Syrian-Iranian axis.
