NNA - Deputy Hadi Hbeish said that the current talks indicated that the upcoming elections would not be held on time.

"Consensus on a new electoral law requires more time; duly, the elections would be postponed till October," the MP told "Shark" radio on Thursday.

Hbeish called on all sides to abide by laws.

He added that the term of a Deputy ends after four years of his election, saying that democracy says to hold the elections on schedule.

"The best current law is the hybrid one," the MP stressed.

Hbeish stressed need to agree on the elections supervisory committee in case 1960 law is approved, adding otherwise, "we should agree on a new bill at the parliament to abolish the current one."

He pointed out that contacts are ongoing to reach a consensus on the elections law.

President Michel Sleiman would not accept to extend the term of the current parliament.

"Change and Reform bloc head Michel Aoun's demanded to extend the term of the parliament in case failure to reach a new electoral law," the MP said, adding that this is the demand of Hezbollah, to delay the elections.

Hbeish urged to hold elections on time, refusing that this Cabinet would keep on ruling the country," the MP concluded.
