NNA - MP Tammam Salam said Tuesday that Lebanon faces a difficult period, against the backdrop of events taking place in Syria.
"The premeditated aggression against the Sunni sheikhs confirms that the devil's hand is ready to sow schism among the Lebanese and to revive sectarian tensions," he told the Orient radio station.
He added that "this incident coincides with the decline in credibility, prestige and power of the government. This opens the way for saboteurs".
Salam has paid tribute to the role played by the army and the security forces, which deployed major efforts to contain sectarian threats.
However, he shed light at the political cover that some security officials had asked for so that they can prevent the recurrence of such incidents resulting from political conflicts. "From here, we call to prevent the use of weapons," he said.
