NNA - National Defense Minister, Fayez Ghosn, followed up Monday on the incoming reports on the fresh attacks on a number of Sheikhs last night, whereby he held a series of contacts to touch on the measures adopted by the army.



"The country yesterday overcame a watershed that could lead it into strife which we always warned of," the Minister said in a statement.



He heaped praise on the speedy action taken by the army to apprehend culprits and the wisdom proven by the political leaders regardless of their various affiliations.



He also blamed the current tension on sectarian rhetoric, calling for opting, from now on, for calm and wise speeches.



Moreover, he maintained that security was not the responsibility of security forces alone, but also of politicians.



"The army will not be reluctant in assuming its duty to protect Lebanon's stability and security," he concluded, vowing that the military shall hit with an iron fist whoever seeks to sow seeds of strife.
