NNA - Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Zasypkin, confirmed on Thursday the ongoing efforts aimed at clinching the much-sought political solution to the conflicts sweeping the Arab and Middle East region, especially in Syria.



"We have had an unchanging stance since the beginning of the events in Syria with a view of an immediate violence ceasing and dialogue," he said.



"We are currently contacting all concerned parties to apply Geneva Declaration which is considered the safe basis to turn the situation from confrontation into a political settlement," he added.



Turning to the Lebanese local scene, Zasypkin reiterated Russian's support for Lebanon's sovereignty and stability and for the measures adopted by the Lebanese army to preserve security and curb attempts to weapons and gunmen smuggling into Syria.



The envoy made these remarks following his meeting today with the Head of Ittihad Party, former Minister Abdul Rahim Mrad, at the latter's Beirut residence.



The pair reportedly discussed most recent developments in Lebanon and the broader Arab region.
