NNA - MP Boutros Harb Wednesday urged the government to take an official stance against the latest statement by Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour in the Arab ministerial meeting.
"The cabinet has to react in line with the dissociation policy adopted by Lebanon and the national sentiment rejecting the killing practiced by the Syrian regime against its own people," he said.
In a statement issued today, the Deputy expressed astonishment over the position of the Foreign Minister "who is supposed to speak on behalf of the Lebanese government and Lebanon, and who actually contradicted with the position of the Arab League."
"It is our right as Lebanese to look into the motives of the Foreign Minister and whether he had the right to take such an initiative in the name of the Lebanese government," he corroborated.
"Does he realize what repercussions this could have on Lebanon and its interests, especially that Arab countries mainly those members of the Gulf Cooperation Council uttered discomfort over the Lebanese position in support of the Syrian regime?" he asked.
"The government should take urgent measures in this regard. It should warn the Minister of Foreign Affairs and force him to commit to its policy," he added, saying it would be necessary to dismiss him if ever he breached that policy again.
