NNA - President of the Republic, Michel Sleiman, signed on Monday afternoon the decree #9968 which summons electorate committees- in all electoral districts specified under Law No. 25 dated 8/10/2008- to elect members of the House of Parliament on Sunday 9/6/2013.



President Sleiman considered the signing of this decree as a procedure stipulated by the law in effect.



Sleiman stressed that "this procedure does not absolutely mean upholding 1960 poll law" but rather in compliance with obligations and responsibilities stipulated by the Constitution and related laws.



The President renewed calls for the endorsement of a new electoral law on the basis of the draft law approved by the Council of Ministers and forwarded to the Parliament.



On the other hand, Sleiman met with European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Stefan Fule, where they boarded bilateral relations, democracy practice in the Middle East and Lebanon via elections, and the regional peace issue.



EU Ambassador to Lebanon, Angelina Eichhorst, was also present during the meeting.



Talks also dwelt on EU's support to Lebanon in the issue of displaced Syrians.
