Hungarian PM lectures on Europe's challenges amid absence of Christianity values

NNA - Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, lectured Friday on the challenges of Christian Europe, as part of his state visit in Lebanon, at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), in presence of Information Minister Walid Daouk, representing Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Bishop Boulos Rouhana, representing Maronite Cardinal Mar Beshara Boutros Rahi, and a panel of high-ranking figures.

"Latest events in Europe push up to raise the following questions: What happened to our dream of one Europe for all the Europeans? How did Europe lose its competitiveness? How did it plunge in debts?" Orban said.

"I believe this crisis is not occasional. We must face the reality; that is, the world is witnessing a change of forces balances that is altering life in Europe. This is why, reforms alone are not enough. We rather need a comprehensive overhaul," he added.

He said the crisis in Europe was down to the prevailing concepts, which are detached from the much-sought values of Christianity.

He regretted that Europe has seemingly entered a phase where it is ashamed of its roots, noting that little reference to Christian and European values is being made in agreements and conventions.

He even blamed the repercussions of capitalism on the rejection of Christianity values.

"Europe has become incapable to rectify the flaws," he stressed.

Subsequently, he said a political culture is highly required to re-energize the spirit of Christian values.
