(UPDATE) Jordanian foreign Minister from Ain Tineh favors transitional stage that preserves unity, security of Syria

NNA - Speaker of the Parliament Nabih Berri welcomed today (Friday) noon in Ain Tineh Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Jawdat. Discussions reportedly featured high on bilateral relations and current developments.

Following the meeting, Jawdat said that the visit aimed at following up on many issues which the Jordanian King discussed with President of the Republic Michel Sleiman during the latter's visit to Jordan, pointing out that he met Sleiman today morning and handed him a letter from the King.

Jawdat added that in addition to bilateral relations between the two countries and means of developing and strengthening them, he mainly discussed with Speaker Berri the humanitarian repercussions of the Syrian crisis as Lebanon and Jordan are shouldering a great burden because of the flow of big numbers of displaced Syrians into both countries.

Jawdat added that Jordan's position on the displaced Syrians to Jordan is clear, "we host them and share with them the little that we have; however, this results in a massive burden on our economy which is already facing a lot of challenges."

He added that talks with Lebanese officials focused on the need to unify the language of communicating with the International Community, International Organizations and the donor countries to enable states neighboring Syria to deal with those humane repercussions.

Jawdat summed up by reiterating Jordan's position from the Syrian crisis in which they support the political solution that guarantees putting an end to bloodshed and violence, calling for the need to have a transitional stage that preserves unity, security and stability of Syria and dignity of the Syrian people.
