Fifteen escaped inmates from Baabda prison back in custody, two surrendered

NNA - The Directorate General of the Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued today the following statement:

"A total number of 69 prisoners managed to escape at dawn today, Saturday, from the Justice Palace in Baabda, where 15 of them were re-arrested and are back in ISF's custody while 2 others surrendered themselves.

During the pursuit of the prisoners, a traffic accident occurred on the Boulevard Camille Chamoun - Hadat district, where a white Dacia car collided with a tree, - it was found that a number of escaping prisoners were on board after it was taken from its driver - which resulted in the death of five and the injury of another.

Search operations are still underway to arrest the rest of the escaped prisoners, and their number at the time of issuing this report was 44.

Therefore, the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces asks citizens who have any information about the whereabouts of any of the fugitives to call the emergency number 112."
