NNA - Military Investigation Judge, Fadi Sawan, in charge of the investigation into the devastating double blast at Beirut Port on August 4, 2020 held on Wednesday hearing sessions with former Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Ghazi Zaiter, as well as with former judge, Jad Maalouf.

Judge Sawan was briefed by Maalouf on the correspondence that had taken place between him and officials about the ammonium nitrate which had been stored at the port prior to the massive explosion on August 4.

Jad Maalouf had authorized in 2014 the transfer and storage of the cargo of ammonium nitrate at the request of the Ministry of Public Works, on the grounds that the cargo could cause grave danger to the environment.
