NNA - Speaker of the House, Nabih Berri, on Wednesday vehemently condemned the riots that stormed Hamra Street on Tuesday evening.

"In my name and that of the House of Parliament, I announce our utter condemnation of Hamra street's ill-fated incident. It is unacceptable. I do not accuse certain people, nor accuse the civil movement; it was something planned and intended by a group of unknown people," Berri said in a statement, wondering whether the aim is to destroy the country.

"Beirut is a capital that belongs to all; it doesn't belong to one rather than the other," Berri added pointing out that the security forces have arrested a number of suspects.

"The perpetrators should be held accountable regardless of their sectarian or political identity," the House Speaker's statement concluded.
