NNA - Caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil contacted Sunday his regional and international counterparts, expressing his "sadness and sorrow" over the recent attack in Baghdad.

"It is necessary to avoid escalation in the region and put an end to current tension, so as not to lead to an undesirable war in the region," Bassil told his counterparts.

He also reiterated "Lebanon's position that it must be excluded from the negative repercussions of this escalation, and the need to negotiate instead of violence, because dialogue provides solutions and preserves security and stability, which are vital for Lebanon to get out of its difficult financial distress."

Bassil sensed "a full understanding of the Lebanese situation and the need to dissociate Lebanon from any harm."
