NNA - The Political Bureau of the Lebanese Kataeb Party held its weekly meeting under the chairmanship of party president, MP Sami Gemayel, issuing a statement at the end of its deliberations touching on the "scheme to overthrow sovereignty and drag the country into war."

The Kataeb uttered surprise over "the suspicious silence of the political authority in all its institutions and components vis-a-vis the dangerous words of Hezbollah's Secretary General, in which he linked Lebanon to the Iranian-American conflict and threatened to fight the war under the command of the Iranian leadership."

"The party, which has long warned against the involvement of Lebanon in the conflicts of the region, now warns of the dangers looming over the country because of Hezbollah's attempts to transform Lebanon into an annexed State, and its determination to appear stronger than the State, after it overthrew its sovereignty, security, independence and freedom of decision," the statement read.

On the Israeli threats and attacks, the kataeb stressed "the importance of continuing to support the Lebanese army, which has the sole right to defend Lebanon and protect the Lebanese," calling for respect for international resolutions, especially 1559 and 1701, and stressing the need to control the border so as to protect Lebanon's sovereignty against any violation.
