Mansour meets Belgian counterpart over array of local, regional affairs

NNA - Caretaker Foreign Minister, Adnan Mansour, met Friday with his Belgian counterpart, Didier Reynders, over the means to bolster the bilateral ties as well as over an array of latest developments in Lebanon and the broader Arab region.

"We are linked to Belgium with solid, strong relations, crystallized on all political, economic, and military levels," Mansour told reporters following the meeting.

"I discussed with my guest the affairs that interest Lebanon and the region, especially the Syrian crisis. We also discussed with him Lebanese affairs especially regarding the repercussions of the Syrian crisis and the influx of refugees," he added.

"We value Belgium's role and contribution to the UNIFIL and the economic cooperation between our countries," he said.

For his part, Reynders said his visit aimed to assuage the tribulations and suffering of the Syrian refugees in Lebanon and of all those enduring the reverberations of the war next door.

"I signed today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs an agreement on enhancing political consultancy on a yearly basis. This will allow the continuity of work between Lebanon and Belgium," he added.

He did not fail to hold out hope for the formation of a new government and then the holding of presidential elections.
